Margate Town 0 Boro 1

A fantastic away showing by the Boro and an amazing away following made it a great day out by the seaside.

Boro travelled by coach and took several fans with them and met up at the ground with those who made their own way there early enough to sample the seaside views and fish and chips before the kick off.

Boro started well and made the running from the first whistle, plenty of good possession and the forward line of Akinwande,Mckenzie and Nouble proved to be a real handful.

With both full backs Olufemi and O’donoghue overlapping at will chances were created and the hosts had their keeper Newcombe to thank for the impasse. Pajetat in the Boro goal had little to do, one shot from Taylor comfortably dealt with and a couple of crosses to take made for as easy a half as he has had this season.

The hosts were disappointing in front of a good healthy crowd in excess of 500 and the home fans would surely have been expecting a better display in the second half.

As it turned out Boro came out even stronger, the midfield trio of Aresti ,Staunton and Stone having complete control feeding the forwards who were dynamic and purposeful. Only the final pass and the final finish were missing. All that changed however after 59 minutes when an effort from Akinwande was blocked and the ball ran to the impressive Aresti who finished in style with his left foot from fully 20 yards. No more than Boro deserved . After more good work between Nouble Akinwande and Olufemi resulted in the latter being brought down in the area a clear penalty was awarded to the Boro.A chance to put the game to bed. Up stepped Nouble but Newcombe made an excellent save diving to his left. Given such a lifeline Margate finally awoke from their slumber and began to exert some pressure on the Boro backline and as Boro retreated seeking to hold on to their slender advantage Pajetat was called in to action on a number of occasions but he held firm with some excellent takes from a number of crosses.

Along with Kirby and Mitchell in fine form at the back Boro held on for a valuable and well deserved victory.
