Lewes FC 0 Boro 1

A fantastic away day saw Boro come away with all three points in one of the best all round performances of the season before a crowd in excess of 800 made up of the home fans and plenty of the Boro faithful who travelled to the south coast. Following on from the emphatic humbling of joint leaders Tonbridge Angels on Monday Boro again showed no ill effects to the heartbreaking end to the Emirates FA Cup tie and demonstrated without doubt the focus and commitment necessary to push on up the league. A bright start saw Boro pushing from the off and after a couple of near misses from corners Kirby narrowly missed at the far post with a left foot effort.

A swift move then saw Staunton hit the post from the edge of the box and then Barker after a fantastic swift break saw his left foot effort strike the bar. In between Lewes had a couple of chances which were comfortably saved by Pajetat in goal.Boro continued to seek the breakthrough and it was the turn of Mckenzie who broke clear to try his luck but his goal bound effort was blocked by a defender. 0-0 at Halftime and after another attack by Boro on 50 mins the deadlock was broken after a handball by a Lewes player was deemed to be deliberate and a penalty awarded . With very little complaint from the Lewes team Joel Nouble ( pictured ) stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to give Boro a deserved lead. After the goal Boro continued in their search to score a second and the expected onslaught from Lewes was slow in arriving . Half chances at both ends, a great save from Carey from a Staunton piledriver almost doubled Boro’s lead and a missed header from the Lewes 9 Smith was as close as Lewes came to an equaliser. O’donoghue had time to rattle the bar from 22 yards out and then Boro held out until the final whistle to record a much deserved win and cap a great day out for the players and the Boro fans who sang their hearts out as usual and enjoyed the fine ale stocked at the bar . Nice ground , lovely people, officials and fans alike and a pleasure to spend an afternoon in their company
