Boro 1 Wingate & Finchley 2

Boro let slip an opportunity to cement second place for the play offs after a disappointing second half performance gave the visitors from down the road all 3 points and put safety in their hands with one game left.

With Pajetat injured young Jackson stepped in for his first start and did not disappoint.

After a bright and sustained period in the first half where the Wingate keeper Gore had much more to do than Jackson in the Boro goal Boro deservedly took the lead on 41 minutes when Aresti pressed ,stole the ball and passed to Akinwande ( pictured ) who had decoy runners in Nouble and Della Verde taking away the Wingate central defenders leaving Akinwande time and space to pick his spot with a well placed finish . Boro then pushed for a second which nearly arrived when a Sambu header was well saved by Gore. 1-0 halftime.
Wingate came out at the start of the second half like a new team as they pressed for an equaliser in search of the points they needed to secure safety . Suddenly the Boro goal was bombarded with crosses and on 51 minutes from a free kick that was headed back across goal the Wingate central defender Njie was on hand from close range to beat the helpless Jackson. Wingate continued to threaten and from a left wing cross after 63 minutes Mendy found himself unmarked 6 yards out and cooly finished much to the delight of the travelling Wingate fans. Boro pushed for an equaliser and Gore save well from a Della Verde free kick before Rowe twice came close from free kicks on the edge of the box . Wingate managed to withstand the storm and held on for a priceless victory .
