Boro 2 Brightlingsea Regent 1

Another action packed game on a cold Monday evening at the CVS Van Hire Stadium saw Boro finally overcome an excellent and hard working Regent team. It was expected to be a tough assignment for the Boro after Regent’s recent resurgence and so it proved. After a bright start by the Boro Olufemi burst clear down the right wing and his cross to Durojaiye was headed just wide . The Regent then took the lead when Hunt swivelled and powerfully shot on the turn from fully 25 yards and caught Pajetat unawares as the ball found the bottom corner. Boro then upped the tempo in an effort to get back into the game although Regent looked ever dangerous on the break. There were strong claims for a Boro penalty when Gabriel was caught from behind however the referee saw matters differently and in fact gave a free kick against Gabriel . Next up O’donoghue appeared to also be upended in the box and he was booked for his troubles for what is now commonly referred to as simulation !! Despite having good possession Boro were struggling to find a way past a resolute Regent back line. Matters almost got worse for Boro on the stroke of half time as Hunt when clean through and from point blank range forced an astonishing save from Pajetat. 1-0 Regent half time .
Boro came out in determined fashion in the second half and lay siege to the Regent goal . Akinwande and Olufemi down the right and Nouble and O’donoghue down the left were raining crosses into the area but there was no one to put the finishing touches on such good approach play. All shots on target seem to be directed at Bradbrook in the Regent goal who dealt comfortably with such efforts .The equaliser finally arrived on 71 minutes when after a corner Kirby headed towards goal, Bradbrook saved but the lethal Gabriel was on hand to blast the ball into the net . Boro then went all out to win the game, Loizou bringing on Sappleton to add fire power up top . It looked as though a winner was on the horizon however after Rowe was brought on to take a dangerous set piece on the edge of the box in the last minute it was in fact Regent who spurned a glorious opportunity to take all three points. After a rare second half foray into Boro territory the crossbar was struck and then from the open goal rebound somehow Yaxley put the ball wide. Regent were left to rue that miss moments later when from the resultant goal kick Gabriel collected the ball and promptly ran past half the Regent side. Once inside the area he drew the keeper and then unselfishly squared the ball to Sappleton who had the easiest of chances to stroke the ball into the empty net. Madness ensured from the large Boro supporters celebrating what proved to be the winning goal. Boro march on but spare a thought for the fantastic efforts from the Regent side who made a real game of it and in truth deserved something from the game.
