Boro near the end of the pre season schedule and on another glorious Saturday afternoon in the sun a performance of some note. Barton Rovers provided strong opposition , particularly in an even first half but as the match wore on the strength in depth of the Boro squad began to shine through.
An early strike by the in form Chinedu Mckenzie gave Boro the lead after an excellent through ball from Joel Nouble split open the Barton defence and Chinedu calmly smashed the ball in to the top of the net . Valery in goal was forced to make a couple of excellent saves as Barton pressed for an equaliser although at the other end Chinedu struck the underside of the bar with a venomous effort .
Barton did equalise right on the stroke of half time as a mistimed challenge from Scott Mitchell conceded a penalty which was duly dispatched. The second half began brightly for Boro and Chinedu restored the lead after a through ball from strike partner Femi Akinwande put Chinedu clean through and he finished with aplomb.
Multiple substitutions were then made by Tom and had an immediate impact as Michael Ademiluyi burst down the right wing and provided a pin point cross onto the head of Barnet loanee Benjamin Aghadiuno who finished in style.
3-1 and the game looked beyond Barton however to their immense credit they fought back and scored an excellent goal when a defence splitting through ball was calmly slotted past the advancing Valery by the Barton centre forward .
Boro restored their two goal advantage as minutes later another raid down the right hand side by Michael led to a cross that was poked home by new boy Charlie Barker who then rounded off a perfect day with a superb Zola like flick from a cross by the impressive captain Tosin. 5-2 to the home side and much to look forward to as the new season gets under way at home to Bognor Regis Town FC next Saturday 11 August . In the interim Boro have a final home pre season match against Brentwood Town FC on Monday 6 August ko 7.45 pm
