Haringey Boro 1 Hanwell Town 1

Another good pre season match in front of a surprisingly high turnout against a very strong Hanwell Town side. The opposition demonstrating that they will be a force this season having been moved sideways by the FA in the new restructuring of step 4 Leagues . Boro had most of the play in the first half with Cypriot international Georgios Aresti pulling all the strings in the middle of the park. A few half chances were created but nothing to cause the Hanwell keeper too many problems . In fact the best two chances fell to Hanwell who caught the Boro twice on the break and nearly punished them. A shot just wide of the far post and a clearance off the goal line by Scott Mitchell preserving the 0-0 scoreline until half time.

Hanwell started the second half well and forced Valery in goal into making two wonderful saves. Boro then created more after the introduction of Rory, Chinedu, Joel and Tosin along with a couple of trialists and a fantastic effort from Rory from fully 40 yards resulted in an excellent save. Boro moved the ball around quicker and with more purpose and the game livened up. Hanwell defended well but were undone by a cross from Joel smashed into the roof of the net by Chinedu who continued his rich vein of form. An end to end flourish followed as both sides increased the pace, Boro seeking to add to their solitary goal and Hanwell seeking to restore parity.

In the final minute Hanwell’s efforts were rewarded after a penalty was awarded following grappling in the box in the wake of a Hanwell corner. No VAR needed for this one and the penalty was duly dispatched. Honours even and a great game enjoyed by all came to an end . Just time to say thank you to the Bell end boys not just for their usual vocal support but also for bringing their buckets and marigolds to help clear up the pigeon mess in the stand. An even better gesture than the Japanese clearing up their rubbish in the world Cup !!
