Haringey Borough 2 – 1 Dereham Town Match Report

HARINGEY BOROUGH V DEREHAM TOWN

Bostik League Division One North                                                                                        4th November 2017 Coles Park

Bostik One North leaders Dereham Town visited Coles Park hoping to emulate Barking and Maldon and return home with league points but failed as a resolute Haringey side took all 3 points.

As becoming two teams in form, both sat back to assess the other and the action never really got going until the second half. There were chances by both sides but Haringey looked competent in dealing with the few Dereham had and should have had at least 2 goals themselves.

Anthony McDonald and that goal machine Ralston Gabriel both should have buried when easier to score, but both went begging and half-time finished goalless.

The second half started as cagey as the first and the first real chance fell to Borough twenty minutes in, when a free kick from the right hand side was floated into the box by McDonald, missed by everyone and fell to Lawrence Yiga to score.

Ten minutes later it was all square again. A run down Dereham’s right, the ball was crossed and Jamie Forsham side footed it in from the edge of the box.

After that both sides were cancelling each other out and there were hardly any chances until a stroke of genius by McDonald at the end!

With time going into added minutes, a tackle by Dereham’s defender by the right corner flag should have been blown for a free kick, but McDonald reacted first and fast and the referee allowed play to continue. Haringey’s forward entered the penalty area, jinxed pass three Dereham players and then side footed in for the winner.

There was eruption in the stand and joy on the pitch for Haringey. There was dejection for Dereham.

Dereham kicked off, referee blew for time, Haringey won!

On Wednesday, Haringey visit bottom of the table Romford in a league match and then on Saturday, they are away to Sittingbourne in the FA Trophy. If all goes to plan, their next home game should be against Potters Bar Town on the Monday.
