Pre Christmas games – match reports

It has been a busy run of games up to Christmas and even the website admins are struggling to keep up!

Saturday 15th December – Worthing 0 Haringey Borough 2
We went to Worthing on the 15th December, who were flying high in the league and had games in hand, for what we knew would be a very tough game. We hard a warm reception from all the Worthing officials on a very wet day on the south coast. Would the boys and the fans be up for it as the rain only got worse through the game? Well, the clear answer was YES! In probably the best 45 minutes of football we have played this season (maybe Poole Town 2nd half was better) we ran the show against a very good footballing team, with the whole team working hard both in and out of possession and attacking with pace and quality to create many chances. After having a goal disallowed when we were unlucky not to score from the initial cross, we didn’t let that knock us and Joel Nouble showed his class with another good run from the left of the box and curled a quality shot into the far corner to leave the keeper no chance and to send the wet but very loud away supporters into bouncing mode in the away end! The 1st half continued with Haringey running the game but a 2nd goal didn’t come.
Worthing started the 2nd half with some fire and at times we had to defend very well as they started to apply pressure, although we always looked dangerous whenever we broke and the boys all dug in when needed to keep Worthing at bay. With around 15 minutes to go from a corner there was a bit of a scramble in the box and after a great save from the keeper Ralston Gabriel (we think!) got the final touch to push the ball home and started wild celebrations for the fans. We controlled the rest of the game with a late goal line clearance ensuring a clean sheet and a fantastic 3 points. We debated on the way home with video footage whether Ralston did score the 2nd and yes, we all agreed he did! The away support was amazing and several Worthing fans and officials commented on this and if the fans can keep this up then we are on the up, up, up!
