Boro 2 Worthing 2

Another draw against a top side which in truth did not suit either side on a day when there were only 3 matches in the league that produced a winner , the remaining games ending in draws and an opportunity missed to make up some much needed ground on the leaders. Worthing started well and had the better of the early exchanges and took the lead after only 5 mins as Starkey from the edge of the box rifled the ball past Beattie in the Boro goal . This forced a reaction from Boro who came close to equalising with first Onokwai and then Froxylias both missing  good opportunities, the latter forcing a fine save from Rushworth in the Worthing goal . The Boro equaliser did come on 41 minutes when Mitchell scored after meeting a free kick from Aresti and tucked home the rebound after Rushworth saved his initial  header , Boro looked to seize the initiative and in the minutes leading up to  halftime dominated possession without creating anything in the way of clear chances. Boro had their backs against the wall again  early in the second half when centre back Jelley rose highest to meet a corner and plant his header beyond Beattie , Demetriou’s headed clearance  was  behind the line and the goal was given . Boro then upped their game and pushed hard for an equaliser , Froxylias creating a number of chances for himself and others, Rushworth repelling all efforts on target and Mcdonald drove over when in a strong position. The equaliser did come when Onokwai and Froxylias combined well to give Froxylias a chance to shoot low into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area on 70 mins. Boro thereafter created a number of chances including an effort from Aresti that was well saved and Mitchell  should have done better from another close range headed opportunity which came off his shoulder into the grateful arms of Rushworth . In the dying stages Worthing themselves should perhaps have taken all 3 points as they fashioned a clear chance and only an excellent save from Beattie kept the scores level .Honours even as the final whistle sounded . Boro’s 12 successive home games comes to an end and we now look forward to improving our away form starting next Saturday against East Thurrock  .
