Boro 3 Potters Bar 2

Following on from last week’s fantastic away draw with former League leaders  Folkestone Invicta, despite  going down to ten men for the final 25 minutes , Boro returned to winning ways in an enthralling match against a very strong and determined Potters Bar outfit. It was the away side who took the lead on 18 mins when a shot from the left was parried by Miles into the path of the grateful Ward- Cochrane who duly scored. Boro went in search of an equaliser and both Mcdonald and  Akinola went close, the latter with a shot well saved by Constable in the Scholars goal. A pivotal moment in the game arrived on 42 mins when the Scholars thought they had taken a two goal lead as a goal was scored seemingly after the referee waved play on contrary to the linesman flagging for offside in the build up play .

After much discussion and no little arguing the goal was disallowed, two Boro players were booked for venting their views and the manager Loizou sent off for allegedly saying a few choice words to his opponent in the away dug out !!

The second half saw a completely different Boro as they pushed in search of an equaliser and pinned back the Scholars back line . The front 3 of Solomou, Mcdonald and Michael- Percil with the assistance of the probing  Akinola were causing mayhem and but for wasteful shooting when well placed could easily have scored. On 62 mins however Boro were awarded a penalty when Constable was adjudged to have fouled Michael- Percil who stepped up himself and sent Constable the wrong way . 3 minutes later Boro went in front when Michael -Percil forced a great save from Constable however the ball fell kindly to Akinola following up who scored with ease. A short while later Akinola had a great chance to increase the Boro lead but shot straight at Constable when well placed following a cross from   Mcdonald . Richards ( pictured ) then headed over when well placed after a Mcdonald corner . On 80 mins the Scholars levelled when Young’s cross from the right wing evaded Miles and sailed over his head and  in off the far post . Still time for Boro to score again when on 83 minutes Richards was unmarked after another pin point corner from Mcdonald flew past the bemused Constable and Richards headed into an open goal. Que pandemonium from the Boro faithful in the healthy 400 plus crowd. Their joy seemed however to be  short lived as the referee awarded a penalty to the Scholars after a needless clumsy challenge inside the area. Up stepped former Boro striker Sachs who’s penalty was superbly saved by Miles who then quickly saved the follow up as well and kept out a number of dangerous crosses in the final few minutes to keep the Scholars at bay . The final whistle was greeted  with much relief and joy as the electric atmosphere was ramped up another notch by the appreciative and ever supportive crowd .

Boro’s next game is away at Margate next Saturday 25 January where there are still some seats on the coach available. 10.30 am departure £15 return £10 concessions .
