AFC Hornchurch 2 Boro 2

Boro travelled to last season’s runaway Bostik North Champions and showed true grit and determination to secure a vital point in their quest for a play off spot. With third placed Tonbridge Angels and 4th placed Worthing losing this was very much a point earned. After a cagey opening on a poor surface with Hornchurch having most of the play without troubling Pajetat in the Boro goal, Boro scored with their first meaningful attack.Oyenuga picking up the ball on the right hand side and swinging in a super cross which caused mayhem and indecision in the Hornchurch back line and as Nouble challenged for the ball it inadvertently went in off the unfortunate Clark. The goal gave Boro confidence and as Hornchurch pushed for an equaliser Boro created a couple of chances where only the finishing touch let them down. At the other end Pajetat pulled off a great save on the stroke of halftime from the impressive Saunders . 1-0 Boro halftime.
The second half began with Boro on top and their lead was doubled on 51 minutes when a Coby Rowe ( pictured ) special free kick left Chafer in the Hornchurch goal watching in admiration as the ball went into the top far corner. Que mayhem from the Boro faithful as they sang their hearts out all with the usual respect for the opposition . Good banter between the two sets of fans and it was the Hornchurch fans who had the last laugh. First Spence calmly stroked home a pin point cross from Winn on 62 minutes and then just as it looked like Boro had withstood the Hornchurch pressure up popped up substitute Dutton, who had been on the pitch only moments, to smash the ball high into the roof of the net with the last kick of the match from close range after Boro failed to clear a last ditch corner . Honours even and whilst Boro were deflated at the lateness of the goal they soon cheered up when they heard that their rivals had failed to win and thereby no damage done to Boro’s hopes. Next up Kingstonian home next Saturday 13 April 3.00pm – Come and get behind the boys in the penultimate home game of the season.
