Boro 2 Bishop’s Stortford 1

A good exciting game saw Boro score a winner in the depths of injury time shortly after Stortford missed an opportunity of their own to take the points. Boro started with a similar line up to the Canvey game a week earlier and looked to play the ball along the ground and after a slow start when Stortford threatened Boro began to take control, Froxylias proving to be a real thorn in the side in his number 10 role, Mcdonald threatening on the wing and Aresti pulling the strings in midfield. However despite the good approach play Burbidge in the Stortford goal was not unduly troubled. Mcdonald game close after starting and finishing a slick move, Froxylias with the outside of the boot also came close before Akinola struck on 36 minutes with a calmly taken finish after Stortford failed to clear a Kisitu cross from the right. Buoyed by the goal Boro upped the  tempo and Froxylias hit the inside of the  post with a close range header with Burbidge beaten. 1-0 halftime. Boro came out with real purpose in the second half and put the Stortford defenders under immense pressure. Aresti being crudely stopped in separate breakaway moves by all 3 midfield players during a torrid 20 minutes , all booked for their troubles , as he was simply too hot to handle .Boro created several half chances and corner after corner but could not add to the scoreline. Stortford equalised with their first real chance of the half on 66 minutes as a long punt forward was flicked on to the evergreen Cureton who made no mistake from close range. The goal galvanised Stortford who had more possession and began to make inroads as the game opened up. Both sides looking to win it and on a break away the ball was carried forward by Barnwell who had time to pick a pass but only found the grateful Pajetat in the Boro goal . Boro pushed and having introduced the  dangerous Onokwai and Ademiluyi looked determined to push the Stortford defenders back. In addition  Froxylias reverting to the right wing was giving the full back a torrid time. As the game entered injury time there was time for the ball to played into the feet of Onokwai and as he turned and poised to shoot was hauled down by the otherwise impressive Henshaw. Penalty and Onokwai dusted himself down to take it and despite Burbidge diving the right way the placement was  perfection and the home crowd went wild . Boro saw the game through to the end and now look forward to Hornchurch visiting on Monday night . Stortford have much to be proud of in their display and will surely start to turn results around shortly.
