Boro 2 Canvey Island 1 Buildbase FA Trophy 2nd qualifying round

A hard fought win against a durable Canvey side secured Boro’s passage to the final qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy . It was important for the side to bounce back after the final minute defeat the previous week against Horsham and the boys certainly attacked with pace early on. Canvey to their credit  withstood the opening salvos and sought themselves to carve some opportunities. The evergreen Hallett causing Boro his usual problems with his clever movement .Boro came closest in the first half with both Mcdonald and Froxylias threatening Johnson in the Canvey goal as Boro pushed for the opening goal . Hallett almost scored as the half came to an end but his effort was well saved by Beattie in the Boro goal. Boro attacked down the right moments later and Kisitu crossed into the box and found Solomou who  forced home at the second attempt .

Akinola had time to thunder a chance against the post as halftime beckoned . 1-0 Boro halftime

Boro pushed in earnest for a second immediately after the break and after a couple of long range efforts saved by Johnson their play was rewarded with  a trademark left foot curler from Froxylias who excelled in his role behind the centre forward Solomou. At 2-0  Boro  took their foot off the pedal and this gave hope to Canvey who pushed to try and get back into the game. They duly did so on 71 minutes when Beattie spilled a cross and could not retrieve the ball as Gilbert beat the Boro defenders to prod home. The expected onslaught from Canvey did not materialise and the Boro defence held firm  to ensure passage through to the next round.
