Boro 3 AFC Hornchurch 1

Another impressive Boro performance gave Boro their first win over our old adversaries AFC Hornchurch following 7 straight previous defeats !!

Boro started brightly and took the lead after only 2 minutes when Mark Kirby once again met a corner at the far post and when the ball fell to his feet he prodded the ball over the line. This set up a period of dominance where in truth Boro should have added to their tally . A mixture of good saves from the Hornchurch keeper Chaffer and poor finishing kept the score to 1-0 at halftime. Always a dangerous scoreline with the renowned goal threat of Hornchurch and nerves were not settled until the 66 minute when Kirby again lost his marker following an O’donoghue corner and powerfully headed home from close range .The game opened up as Hornchurch tried to mount a recovery but Boro held firm and were a constant threat on the break with MacDonald and Nouble striking at will and Akinwande holding the ball up well .
With Barker pulling the strings a third goal looked likely and duly arrived after an emphatic surge by Double and when he fed MacDonald the finish was sublime . Hornchurch did score a consolation gaol a few moments later as Boro switched off at the back and Mckenzie head home. Too little too late and Boro’s upsurge continues with 4 straight league wins .
